2014 Update 5
Friends of Pendower Beach AGM and open meeting: 7.30pm Thursday 13th November, Gerrans Memorial Hall
'The politics of landscape protection: policy, implementation, decision-making: Mind the gap!'
The general election is fast approaching, so we've asked the prospective candidates of the main political parties standing for the Truro and Falmouth constituency to come and speak at our next big meeting. So far our MP Sarah Newton, Lib Dem Cornwall Councillor and prospective parliamentary candidate Simon Rix and Labour Party candidate Hanna Toms have accepted.
Each speaker will have five minutes to put forward their party's landscape policies. Then we'll have a Q and A session, which will be your opportunity to put your questions to the panel. So we can make sure we cover the themes that are most important to you, we'll be asking for your questions in advance, with spontaneous follow–up questions as time allows. One aspect we especially want our speakers to address is what they will do to ensure that policies are enacted and enforced when it comes to making decisions on individual planning applications.
The open meeting will be chaired by Adrian Phillips CBE, an expert in the field of landscape protection. He was Director General of the Countryside Commission from 1981 – 1992 and more recently has served on the boards of several UK NGOs. He was a board member of the National Trust until 2012 and is now a member of its South West Regional Advisory Board. He's also a Ministerial appointee to the Cotswolds AONB Conservation Board. He's been coming on holiday to the Roseland area since he was a child and has a strong affection for our local landscape.
We'll be sending out more details about the meeting and notes on all our speakers nearer the time. Meanwhile I hope you can make it to what promises to be a lively evening. I look forward to welcoming you on 13th November.
With all good wishes
